Course Description

The objective of this course is to familiarize students with the enabling technologies of information systems, including their basic concepts, architecture and, most importantly, their application and impact to business. Topics to be covered include:

  1. (2/12, 2009) Data Mining for Decision Making and CRM

  2. (2/19/2009) RFID and the Internet of Things

  3. (2/26/2009) Google and the Power of Data and Its Innovations

  4. (3/5/2009) Web 2.0: Harnessing Collective Intelligence and Socializing the Online Environment

  5. (3/12/2009) From Middleware to SOA, to a Global and Dynamic Integration of Services

  6. (3/19/2009) Peer-to-Peer Systems, Content Delivery and Digital Rights Management

  7. (3/26/2009) Information Security and Management

  8. (4/2/2009, 2:20-4:00pm) Transaction Processing (if time permits)

  9. (4/9/2009, 2:20-4:00pm) Final Exam
Moreover, to encourage discussion and stimulate thoughts, some questions will be raised to each topic, and students are required to form groups to present their solutions to the questions. Each presentation to a question takes 10 minutes, plus 3-5 minutes Q&A.
